The First Step...

Great news!

I landed an Assistant position @ Salon DV8 in Southgate and I am TOTALLY loving it. My mentor is AWESOME and the salon staff is great too. I am so blessed. The only problem I am having now??? Finding good shoes!! Being on your feet for 9 hours a day is rough. I plan on getting a pedicure soon...LOL.

The hours at the salon are really great too! I'm there Tues-Fridays around 1PM usually, and Sat is from 11-5 usually. Stop in and get your hair did, all the cool kids are there! ;D

OK, gotta dash. I have a 9AM salon meeting that ends in getting my hair done...did I mention how much I love my job yet??? :)

Great hair days to you all!!

Progress is slow but steady...

So what has happened and where the HECK have I been for the past two months?

Well...

I took and passed State Boards and I am licensed now. Trying to find a job for these past two months has proven to be the BIGGER challenge. I have papered my half of the hemisphere with my resume, went on job interview after job interview and I am STILL looking for a job. I've had SEVERAL really great interviews this week, and a few callbacks to go on over the next two days, so we'll see what becomes of things.

I am truly blessed because one of my interviewers gave me a few tips and pointers and is challenging me to practice my craft 3 hours a day. There is a certain way to hold a comb and a pair of shears that she showed me, and because of it my cuts have been better and I have been going through them FASTER! (Speed and Accuracy are my two biggest pitfalls right now.) I have a cut to do at that salon on Saturday morning, and at another salon tomorrow (well, later today really, now that I look at the time.)

I talked with another friend who's looking for a job, and he too is having problems getting a job. YEA! IT'S NOT JUST ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! He asked me if I was just looking in my field (Cosmetology) or if I was looking at other places. I LOL'd and told him I was applying everywhere I thought I would have a chance of getting a job. I JUST signed up with monster.com for this reason. Though I was surprised to find that they have Cosmetology jobs on Monster!

I am trying to stay positive and figure out creative things to do with my free time. I'm trying to find places to volunteer. Any suggestions/advice is GREATLY appreciated.

And...I'm spent.

More soon.

Face Forward....

My husband had to go out of town for a business trip, work was rough, and I haircut that I did for a colleague didn't turn out AT ALL how she wanted. I was SO STRESSED OUT about everything that happened this week, that I got myself sick. What bummed me out even more? I had to pass up two MAJOR fun nights out with friends, because I was not feeling well.

I have been all Emo to the max this week and "Whoa is me, FML, Blah Blah BLAH" this week, and now as I go back and read through what was bringing me down, I can't help but laugh at myself!

BUT they say that everything happens for a reasonWell, I know what that reason was this time around...I FINALLY learned the lesson. (For me being so smart, sometimes I'm a numb-skull!)

Anyhooses...the lesson:

Yesterday, I stopped to have din @ my friends work while he was on break. I missed him while he was on break, but he was getting off work soon, I so decided to just hang around and wait. I ate my food, and took out my flashcards to prep (MORE!!) for State Boards that I'm taking on Wednesday. I happened to look over at the table across from me and notice two smartly-dressed looking women. I happened to notice that one of them had a craft book I recently purchased and I LOVE it, so I commented to her on it, and after talking for a few minutes about crafting, guess what I found out? Turns out...she's a hairstylist too! In the area that I want to work in! So I picked her brain for a few more minutes and then she excused herself back to her previous convo with her friend. (Sorry about hogging you!)

When my friend was done with his shift, we sat down and talked at length about all the drama that happened with my week, and though he is my biggest cheerleader he does NOT mince words. "OH SWEETIE! You look like shit!" (I literally LOL'ed.) I couldn't even be the least bit upset, because I know I REALLY did. My passion and zest just...fizzled out. I let my doubts and fears get to me and POOF! I haven't felt that sad and defeated in SUCH a long time.

My friend (who's working on a PhD in Behavioral Psych) gave me a few tips and tricks to try and made me look at some HARD TRUTHS in regards to how I handle certain things. I tend to head for the hills and dish to a friend vs. trying to sort things out myself, and rely on myself and my own judgement. I seek approval from others vs giving myself approval. When things are REALLY bad: I PANIC! I engage in "self-destructive behaviors" like: "eating" my problems away, spending money I don't have, shutting down and going into "Hibernate Mode" as I call it, or smoke WAY too many stogies and then have to spend EVEN MORE money for more. IT'S A VICIOUS CYCLE!!! One that I need to BREAK! According to my Dr. Friend...somewhere along the way I was "conditioned" that these actions are acceptable and as such I repeat these nasty patterns.

So...instead of going on a devouring binging on food, going on a mad spending spree, or smoking like a chimney I'm going to try a few new ideas...

1. Art Therapy - I just bought myself some coloring books and a BIG box of crayons. I'm a visual person, colors make me HAPPY. Art therapy is HUGE (and VERY helpful) The repetition of coloring in certain areas, or even drawing lines over and over again is VERY soothing. (Tip: Manilla legal pads are better than STARK WHITE notebooks...) Go ahead and try it!

2. Structure - Creating lists are a great way to accomplish your goals & to get things done. Crossing off items makes you feel accomplished and more powerful too! (You should see my list for today...I kicked it's @$$!!!!)

3. Reward System (AKA "Me Time") - When I have free time I like to read, blog, visit a few websites that I'm fond of, talk with friends, go on FB and Twitter, play video games (WoW mainly) and of course...SHOP! So whenever I accomplish a goal, (big or small) I allow myself ONE thing I like to do, the bigger the goal, the bigger the reward. I ran errands, did some chores, made some calls, researched some potential salon jobs, went grocery shopping, and now? I'm blogging. Then I plan on playing some WoW for an hour (or three), then I'll hop into bed. The key to your "Me Time" is STRUCTURE. Give yourself a half hour of Internet time here, or a few chapters of a new book there, or a few hours of playing video games, but you have to make sure that you don't lose yourself in your "Me Time." Other things will start to suffer if you do-relationships, your health, your laundry pile (LOL!)

Tomorrow is going to be a Love-ly day. (Hubby is home from his trip and it's Valentine's Day to boot!)

Stay Beautious All!

XOXO

From The Black Abyss I Have RETURNED....

First off, sorry I'm WHOA bad, at stopping in and posting on here.

Therefore, my 2011 resolution is to update this blog more!

So...where have I been and what have I been up to?

WELL...since you asked...

I FINALLY finished Beauty School!! WAHOO! I took a break from school and studying to work @ a Supply House to get more aquanted with many different lines and products, to help myself be more well-rounded (and hopefully) increase my chances of getting into one of my "Top Choice" Salons.

I've been working assisting my "Team Hair" Partner, Alice in her MUA Adventures in our Metro-Detroit Wonderland. Thanks to my two closest friends, Alice (who I sometimes assist) and K (BFF who's an agency represented model) I have had quite a few Beauty Adventures myself over the past year-ish.

My lovely BFF is quite amazing: An Agency Represented model, Smart (like Engineer for a major car company smart!), and the sweetest person ever! So a few years back when she decided that her birthday was "Just Another Day" me and her boyfriend decided to surprise her with a dinner party with her "Inner Circle" at her favorite restaurant! Well, as it turns out...the gentleman I happened to sit next to at this fab din for my BFF is QUITE the VIP in our area.

He invited me to sign up for one of his group events and TA-DA!! I had all kinds of shoots (and was asked back to the next event he had) that stemmed from this ONE dinner party!

My Kitty-ism for the day is this: You never know when you're going to be "discovered." Get your Beautious self out there and NETWORK! I can NOT stress enough how important business cards are. I NEVER leave home without some now. You never know what the day will bring you, so BE PREPARED! Also, make sure you THANK the people that got you where you are, and let them KNOW how much you appreciate EVERYTHING they've done for you. Humility is something not often found in this industry. Divas abound, saying "Please" and "Thank You" will get you MUCH farther than "GIMME" and "NOW!!"

Whew... /end rant

TFP is a WONDERFUL thing when your just starting out. I'm lucky in the fact that at the beginning of my MUA career I happen to meet the right people and be in the right place at the right time, so my Port has A LOT of depth to it in a VERY short amount of time.

Back to the MAIN purpose of this bloggy-poo. Here are my recent purchases of the Beauty L00TZ!!!

From Mirabella:

Fashion Smoke in the Le Smoking Collection
Shade 3N in Pure Press
IIIN in Liquid Cream Foundation
Felt Tip Black Eyeliner

(Editor's Note: Maybe my eyes are abnormally oily...but the first two times I used this it seemed to wipe right off. Next time I'm priming my eyes to see how that works for me.)

If you're not familiar with Mirabella here is their site as well: Mirabella

My most recent beauty purchase was this:

Centerfushia by Lime Crime

I've had my eye on this company for awhile now, keep in mind, this make-up is NOT for the weak-of-heart! The only semi-sad news is that due to their reformulation process, many colors I wanted to purchase are out of stock currently! :'( However, the reformulation process is for a GREAT reason...They are switching over to an all Vegan formulation! (They are already cruelty-free!)

Here is the link to read more about this wonderful company...if you're interested. Lime Crime Site.

Have no fear my Kitty Krew! I will post pics and feedback on this loveliness as soon as I get my paws on it!
